VOGEL'S INGREDIENT INFORMATION

VOGEL'S uses a wide variety of natural ingredients. Different VOGEL'S products have varying amounts of the ingredients shown below.
Grains

Wheat: Wheat is the most widely cultivated cereal crop in the world. Relatively high in protein, low in fat and high in carbohydrate, wheat is also high in insoluble dietary fibre. Wheat is generally milled into flour and is the basis of most bread produced. However, in addition to flour, the VOGEL'S bread range also includes kibbled wheat (along with kibbled rye).

Rye: The main grain used for bread making in Northern Europe and Russia for many centuries, rye is most likely to be consumed as a wholegrain product. It is high in protein and carbohydrate, low in fat and is also an excellent source of dietary fibre. Rye has a high content of phytoestrogens.

Oats: Oats are low in fat and high in protein. They are also rich in soluble fibre which helps to slow digestion and the release of glucose and gives you that satisfied feeling. Soluble fibre also helps lower cholesterol absorption, which may in turn reduce the risk of heart disease.

Barley: Barley was one of the first grains eaten by humans. As well as being high in soluble fibre, barley is low in fat and high in carbohydrate. Barley is used in a variety of dishes including bread, soups and breakfast cereals.

Spelt: Spelt is an ancient grain from the same family as wheat and is famous for its nutty texture. One of the first grains to be grown by early farmers, Spelt is naturally high in fibre as well as low in sodium.

Soy

Soybeans are a good source of protein and dietary fibre including soluble fibre. Soy products help to control cholesterol levels because they are cholesterol free, most of the fats are polyunsaturated and they also contain isoflavones.

 

Pumpkin Seeds (also known as Pepitas)

Pumpkin seeds are hull-less so they can be eaten without hulling. They have a strong nutty flavour and are high in unsaturated fats and protein as well as vitamins E and A.

Cranberries

Cranberries are rich in antioxidants, low in fat, high in B vitamins and dietary fibre. Antioxidants are compounds that neutralize free radicals when they are formed. The human body is capable of producing antioxidants naturally, but under conditions of stress this antioxidant production can be severely impaired. Fruits and vegetables, including cranberries, provide an excellent source of additional antioxidants.

Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower kernels are high in protein and dietary fibre. They are a good source of minerals including iron and potassium and vitamins B1 and B6. Their fat content is largely polyunsaturated. They form a healthy snack food or may be added to bread and muesli.
